Lotus Cars, founded by Colin Chapman, entered the small, mid-engine, sports racer market in 1962 with the Lotus 23. The Lotus factory eventually produced approximately 130 of these cars. This example was imported into the U.S. in 1962 and was quickly sold to the first in a series of amateur racers, who campaigned the car in the Southeast. The car was moved to New Mexico in late 1976 and disassembled. This Lotus has undergone a painstaking restoration, completed in 2013, back to a configuration typical of a mid-1960s club racer. Some period updates, such as the twin-camshaft engine with dry-sump lubrication, have been installed. This Lotus 23 appears much as the car would have at a racetrack 50 years ago.
